What is Ethical Engagement in Alcuin?

The ethical engagement subcommittee is responsible for Alcuin’s involvement with the environment, charities and volunteering. We work with staff members in the college to provide opportunities for students and aid Alcuin in gaining awards for promoting sustainability and being eco-friendly.
We’ve recently played a role in the university’s ‘One Planet Week’, holding a pizza and film night, and our main current project is getting the college allotments up and running again in order to grow fresh produce that can be given to students alongside Free Fruit Monday.
Our college charity this year is St Leonards Hospice, a York-based independent charity offering specialist palliative care for local people with life limiting illnesses.
We’re also currently working and meeting with local charities to develop both one-off and long-term volunteering projects for students which will help members of the college gain new skills and enhance their CVs. If you have any questions or wish to get involved in events and opportunities, please contact our RAG officer; Emma Clark (elc579@york.ac.uk0 or our Volunteering Officer; Hope Shooter (hjs557@york.ac.uk) .
